Wool Hat
We get so much grief for including a wool hat on almost every itinerary that we couldn't resist giving it its own page. OK here's the scoop, if you don't bring a wool hat it will be cold (just like it will rain if you don't bring a raincoat).
Seriously now...an amazing amount of body heat is lost through our heads. A wool hat acts as a great regulator of your body heat as you're hiking. Feeling a bit cold, put on your hat. Warming up, take it off. Experienced hikers typically have a wool hat stuffed in the bottom of their pack (it doesn't weigh much or take up much space).
