| I've
never skied, canoed, rafted, etc. before. Should I register
for a trip which has these activities?
By all means!
Our adventures are designed to accommodate beginners as
well as more experienced travelers. Instruction is provided
for women new to an activity. Our goal is to introduce you
to a new sport or recreation which you can pursue after
your travels with us.You may challenge yourself on our adventures
and discover you can do more than you thought. We design
vacations not Olympic events so relax and try out something
new!
Where
will we be sleeping?
We stay in local
hotels, bed&breakfasts, lodges, inns, sailboats and under
the stars. Accommodations are typically double occupancy.
What
will the food be like?
We eat local
foods which can be simple nutritious meals or gourmet feasts.
Whenever possible we cater to special dietary needs.
What
is included in the cost?
We try to simplify your vacation by including all foreseeable costs you would typically incur on a trip, in the price we charge. There will be no 'surprise' costs or additional charges during your travels with us. You won't be left on your own to find restaurants in a strange city, or wonder who and how much to tip along the way.
The cost of each
adventure includes ALL meals, lodging, described activities,
pre-trip preparation information, a full time escort/guide,
tips & gratuities. On international adventures (and some
domestic) airport transfers are also included. Alcoholic
beverages and airport taxes are not included. Laughs are
on the house.
What
if I come on my own?
Most of the women
who travel with us come on their own. We assume that participants
are coming by themselves and match them up with a roommate,
when/if we change accommodations, we change roommates. Our
participants think it's a fun way to do it. If you are traveling
with a friend, you can request to share a room. You will
only be charged a single supplement if you request
a private room.
Who
are the guides?
Our guides are
women with outdoor leadership skills, first aid training,
patience & senses of humor. They are teachers, naturalists,
sailors, mothers, grandmothers, ski instructors, raft guides
and story tellers. They love to travel and enjoy being in
the outdoors. We use women guides whenever possible, which
is most of the time. Debbie Jacobs, the founder of Explorations in Travel, has been organizing and leading women's travel adventures for over 20 years. She can hardly believe it's been that long!
What
types of women travel with your organization?
Participants
on our adventures are diverse. Some are married, divorced,
widowed, single, mothers, grandmothers, retired, or working.
Most women come on a trip by themselves, and many return
to travel with us again. They come from all over the country
and many do not have experience in the activities we offer
them.
How
fit do I need to be?
It depends on
the trip you choose. All of our itineraries include some
sort of physical activity. We go out of our way to accommodate
women of different abilities and encourage everyone to do
some pre-conditioning before their trip. Most women can
do more than they think they can in the out of doors. We
want to provide you with the opportunity to discover your
strengths. Please speak with us if you have questions about
any specific activities.
What
if I arrive a day early for a trip or want to stay a day
later?
We will assist
you in making arrangements for accommodations before or
after a trip.
When
should I book my flight?
We will provide
you with information regarding the time the group will be
met at the airport or at our first hotel. You should make
arrangements to arrive before or at this time. Be sure to
check with us before making any final flight arrangements.
What if I need
to cancel? Our policy regarding cancellations are detailed
in our Terms & Conditions.
