There is nothing quite like looking into the eyes of a creature like a manatee. Crystal River is a breeding ground for West Indian Manatees. In the winter months they come inland in search of the warmer water in the bays for breeding, and Crystal River is fed by more than thirty natural springs which keep the water at a constant 72 degrees. You'll learn about these gentle giants as you swim among them. What a thrill that will be!

You'll have the opportunity to explore some of the loveliest rivers in the State. Made famous by Steven Foster's song, the Suwanee River winds its way south to the Gulf of Mexico. A National Wildlife Refuge is a veritable paradise for shorebirds and fish. Wetland areas along the river and its tributary streams contain picturesque cypress trees with their characteristic 'knees' that bulge from their trunks at waterline, where nesting wood ducks, black bear and alligators thrive. Over 250 species of birds have been recorded on the refuge and 90 are known to nest there. The Ichetucknee Springs feeds the river by the same name and you'llenjoy a relaxing paddle on its shimmering waters.

The hundred islands which make up the Cedar Keys and the shoreline to the north have remained almost totally in their primitive state despite the development of most of Florida. Three of these islands make up the Cedar Keys Wildlife Refuge. Miles of sandy dunes, grassy bays and marshes are a nature lovers dream. The town of Cedar Key, once a bustling seaport has become a haven to artists and writers who find the unspoiled environment inspirational to their work. We think you'll find it inspirational as well while you sea kayak and revel in the unique qualities of this coastal paradise.
