This exciting adventure will introduce you to the variety of environments and cultures in this small Central American country.

From our charming b&b in Belize city we'll travel to San Ignacio to our riverside cabins. Enroute we'll visit the Belize Zoo, considered to be among the best in the world, as it is home to indigenous animals of Belize, living in habitats appropriate for each species. Keeping with the wildlife theme we'll visit the community run Baboon Sanctuary where black howler monkeys and their habitat have been conserved by the people of the area. It's quite a treat to make eye contact with these typically shy and reclusive monkeys. At Chaa Creek we'll be staying on the Macal River in comfortable tent cabins. From here we'll explore the nearby region. A variety of Mayan ruins dot the landscape and we will have the opportunity to explore them along with medicinal plant and butterfly gardens. Why drive to town when you can hop into a canoe and paddle there, and that's what we'll do! An eclectic mix of people have settled in this area and the town reflects this diversity.

Costa Rican Wildlife

Dotted with small islands the coast of Belize is bordered by the world's second largest barrier reef. We'll be staying on not just one but two different cayes. One, Southwater Caye is private with great snorkeling off the beach and comfy hammocks for 'hanging out'. Not much goes on here so you'll be able to unwind and relax on 'island time'. But don't nod off just yet! The nearby Man-O-War caye is home to a colony of brown footed boobies and frigate birds and we'll travel by boat to see the spectacle of these birds and the relationship they've developed for co-existing. From Southwater Caye we'll travel to the more 'developed' Caye Caulker with its sand roads and laid back pace. Grab a kayak and paddle the coast or wander the shops and experience the pace of this funky little island. A boat takes us to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve for snorkeling and a visit the infamous Shark-Ray Ally.

We'll return to Belize City for final explorations and to our last night in Belize. You'll be returned to the airport for your departing flight.

The trip begins and ends in Belize City.

Cost: $3199
